Next time you get your hair cut just ask the stylist to thin it for you. They use a razor, and it takes off some of the bulk. Flat ironing your hair also helps, but since your avatar is a guy I guess that doesn't help. You can always use a little gel to smooth it out in the meantime if you can't get to the hairdresser, or barber or whatever guys call hair people, but make sure you only use a small amount or you'll end up looking like Alfalfa from the little rascals.

You can buy thinning scissors at the store. I thin my own hair all the time. Just watch how your stylist does it and do it the same way they do it.
